“Exploring Market Stalls Together” Early Intervention Screening Event Kicks Off: Join Your Child in Discovering Their Potential for Growth

The Bureau of Social Affairs, New Taipei City Government commissioned Eden Foundation operated the Early Intervention Community Resource Center of the New Taipei City District I, recently held the “Exploring Market Stalls Together” early intervention screening event at the Shuidu Civic Activity Center in Tamsui. Combining challenge games with developmental progress consultations, the event created a warm and engaging space for parent-child interaction, attracting numerous families. It allowed parents to monitor their children’s development while playing together, thereby achieving the goals of early detection and early intervention.

Themed around a “night market,” this screening event featured several parent-child interactive stalls and game stations that incorporated various developmental indicators, including cognitive, language, and motor skills. While children enjoyed the games, parents were able to receive on-site developmental progress consultations to better understand their children’s growth, thereby alleviating parenting stress and ensuring their children’s development proceeds smoothly.

One participating parent noted that this was their first time attending an early intervention screening event. With limited time to spend with their child on a daily basis, the event not only provided a clearer understanding of their child’s language, motor, and social development but also taught them methods for supporting and guiding their child’s growth at home. They expressed hope for more similar events in the future to receive professional advice and support.

Ms. Yu-Chu Lin, Social Work Chief of Section, Early Intervention Community Resource Center of Eden New Taipei District I stated that ages 0 to 6 are a critical period for child development. However, some parents may find it difficult to promptly recognize developmental differences in their children due to negative societal stigmas. Therefore, the center incorporates screening into play-based activities to reduce parents’ apprehension and assist them understand their children’s development through relaxed interaction.

Yu-Chu further indicated that 80 children participated in this event. During parenting consultations, the issue parents were most concerned about was their children’s language development. Since New Taipei City is home to many dual-income families, parents are often busy with work and have limited time to interact with their children. Therefore, in daily life, it is recommended that parents encourage their children to try a variety of foods to strengthen their chewing muscles, thereby building the strength needed for speech articulation.
