Eden Liouguei Site Hosts Paper Craft Activities to Celebrate a Heartwarming Year of the Horse

With the Chinese Lunar New Year approaching, the festive atmosphere is growing stronger. On the 4th, the Children Welfare Service Center, Social Welfare Bureau of Kaohsiung City Government commissioned Eden Foundation to host the Liouguei Children Development Community Service Center to host an emotional support activity titled “Creative Paper Art: New Year Ornaments” at the Taoyuan Parent-Child Center in Taoyuan District. Through paper craft activities, the event aimed to help parents in the community find a moment of mental respite amid their busy daily caregiving routines.

Eden invited parents and children to participate in the Chinese Lunar New Year Festival ornament-making activity together.

The event kicked off with a fun-filled “Lucky Phrases Challenge.” “May success arrive with the noble steed,” “Be the dark horse leading the way”—cheers of good wishes rang out one after another. As parents helped their children repeat the phrases, they witnessed improvements in their children’s expressive abilities, filling the room with continuous laughter. This allowed parents, who are usually busy juggling rehabilitation and family care, to enjoy a precious moment of emotional relaxation and bonding.

Next, parents and children immersed themselves in the Chinese Lunar New Year Festival ornament-making activity. Educare givers first guided the children to explore paper with different textures and patterns, then led them through cutting and pasting activities. While developing fine motor skills, the children also enjoyed quality time with their parents. Focusing on paper crafts allowed stress to melt away as their fingers moved. Watching their children’s confident smiles upon completing their creations, parents felt a deep sense of accomplishment—a key factor in transforming the pressures of caregiving into positive motivation.

During the activity, three-year-old Hsiao-Chih stood out. Hsiao-Chih’s mother moved from another region to marry into a family in the remote mountainous area of Taoyuan. Due to environmental constraints and lifestyle factors, Hsiao-Chih previously had few opportunities for outdoor activities or social interaction, resulting in weaker overall muscle development and limited verbal expression. Since the early intervention program began, the educare givers have not only provided hourly sessions but have also become a source of emotional support for his mother, offering positive parenting strategies. Now, Hsiao-Chih has shown significant improvement in both his overall muscle strength and his motivation to speak. His mother shared her feelings after participating in the event: “I felt the warmth of the community and realized I am not alone on this journey of caring for my child.”

After the event, parents and children happily posed for a group photo together.

Ms. Shu-Tsui, Cheng, Director of Chisan Early Intervention Service Center, Eden Foundation, stated that the Liouguei service center provides on-site, home-based, and mobile therapeutic services as well as family support to young children in Liouguei, Maolin, and Taoyuan districts who hold disability cards, are suspected of having developmental delays, or have been diagnosed with developmental delays. Furthermore, Eden’s core service extends beyond providing rehabilitation for children to include “psychological support for caregivers.” We hope that by organizing such events, it can effectively strengthen the community support network, allowing early intervention families to find emotional resonance through mutual companionship. In the future, Eden will continue to safeguard parents’ mental health through diverse programs. For further information about these services, please contact the service hotline at +886-7-689-4164.
