To promote the diversified participation of persons with disabilities and enhance social inclusion and integration, the Social Affairs Bureau of New Taipei City used the surplus distribution fund of the public welfare lottery to subsidize Eden Foundation to operate SanHsia Kuo-Kuang Disability Day Care Center. And in conjunction with community care service site of San-Hsia Disabled Service Center to organized a one-day baking experience, which 15 teams that each conduct by 1 senior citizen and 1 service user worked together to make a cake in order to prepare a Mother's Day gift in advance. Thanks to the hard-working mothers.
Ah Hsiang from Eden SanHsia Kuo-Kuang Day Care Center presented carnations to the senior citizens at the site to wish them a happy Mother's Day in advance.
Ah Hsiang, 33-year-old, and his brother are both persons with severely intellectual disabilities. Since their father had a stroke many years ago then has difficulty moving around as well as taking care of himself, their mother can only take care of them by herself. After graduation, Ah-Hsiang received service in other day care centers for a short period of time, but refused to go there because he could not adapt. Because his mother was unable to take care of her husband and the two sons, Ah Hsiang and his brother often wandered around the community. To prevent any conflict between the two brothers and residents who not familiar with the situation, their mother contacted the center and Ah Hsiang agreed to start receiving services in July of last year.
When he first arrived at the center, due to bad experiences in the past, Ah Hsiang was always in a tense and nervous state, and could not easily interact with other peers. After a long period of guidance from the educare giver, he finally let go of his guard and began to be willing to participate in the center's activities and courses, no longer rejecting interactions with others, and was even able to work with other peers to complete tasks. Because of the respect of the educare givers and the friendly treatment of his peers, Ah Hsiang is now much more cheerful and always greets everyone happily and enthusiastically in the morning.
The baking course today on 3rd of Jun., 75-year-old Auntie Pi-Chu helped Ah Hsiang finish his Mother's Day cake.
This handmade cake experience is the first time for Ah Hsiang to interact with people outside the center. Although he was a bit nervous, under the warm and enthusiastic guidance of Auntie Pi-Chu, he used cute decorations to show his love for his mom and made a unique Mother's Day cake. 75-year-old Auntie Pi-Chu, has been coming to the site for more than 6 years and is one of the most experienced members. As she does not have to take care of grandchildren and family in her retirement life, she felt that she should go out and find a place to participate in activities and do something, so she went to the Community Care Service Site which operated by San-Hsia Disabled Service Center. In addition to participating in activities, she can also contribute as Eden volunteers and make her retirement life more colorful.
According to the Eden Foundation, the most important thing to the implement of CRPD is to have “Diversified Participation” and “Respect for Self-determination”. To achieve this, the center provides life care service and physical fitness training, as well as various courses to cultivate self-care abilities and talent clubs. At the same time, the center also actively establishes a community resource network to enhance the social participation of its service users. In addition to enriching the community life, we also hope to take this opportunity to understand and accept each other, to build an integrated and inclusive society.
Eden has been providing services for persons with disabilities for more than 40 years and understands the pressure and hardship of the caregivers and their families. In addition to professional care, Eden also offers supportive services to family caregivers, giving them timely assistance to accompany them on the road of long-term care, and to be their strong and powerful backing.
