My experience as an intern in Eden has been very enjoyable thus far. Before coming, I was not sure of what to expect when I got here because there was limited information on the English version website of what the organization does, but I am now very glad that I took the chance to come to Eden. Everyone from all the different locations that I’ve been to has been kind and welcoming.
During my time here, I’ve had the opportunity to proofread the Annual Report and observe the different kinds of facilities and services Eden provides to persons with disabilities. Because all my social work experience has been directly in the medical setting, it has been an interesting experience to see other areas of social work that I would not have the opportunity to see back in my own community. It was fun being able to see community level social work being done because opportunities like this in my community is very limited. What was also interesting to experience was how culture impacts the rapport a social worker can build with their client.
Prior to coming here, I really was not sure of what I was going to be doing during my time at Eden, but I can easily say that each day has been different and interesting. I enjoyed having the opportunity to go around to different areas of New Taipei City with the staff at Ai-Ming to meet different clients, and learning vocational rehabilitation, a field I had little to no knowledge of. As I spend more time at Eden, I become even more satisfied with my decision come to Taiwan and intern at Eden.
