Eden Social Welfare Foundation x University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) x The Renovation Volunteer Team

On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of Eden Foundation, the "Walking together for commonwealth" was established as an evangelistic short-term mission team, hoping to follow God's will of "doing justice, showing mercy, and walking with God in humility" (Micah 6:8), and to develop local actions in response to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). A total of 10 international volunteers and 10 architecture students from the China University of Science and Technology, went to the Maibagah (Smahan) Presbyterian Church in Miaoli County’s Tai’an Townshi to conduct an international children's English camp and renovate public toilets.

The public toilet renovation and repair team is a collaboration between Eden Residential Services Development Office and the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), utilizing the expertise of the architecture faculty and students. The Department of Architecture at the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), said that it was a pleasure to participate in this initiative, which fulfills the goals of the USTC USR of "Local Connection" and "Talent Cultivation", giving back to the communities with professionalism, and allowing students to learn by doing and accumulate practical experience. To help renovate the public toilet, besides tidying up the surroundings, the exterior wall is adopted an outdoor material, southern yellow pine, which matches the characteristics and needs of the tribe.

Eden Task Force integrates Eden's teams from different professional fields and works together with domestic and international volunteers, external partners, and the local community. We are especially grateful to the students and faculty of the University of Science and Technology of China for their commitment by making their effort to help build a better place for the local remote community.
