Eden Implemented in 2021 Global Cooperation & Training Framework (GCTF)

Virtual Conference on the Implementation of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities

The United States X Taiwan X Japan X Australia X Israel

Eden as the implemented partner is honored to announce that the Global Cooperation and Training Framework (GCTF) Virtual Conference on the Implementation of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities was successfully held on November 4th and 5th. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Taiwan (MOFA), American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), the Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association (JTEA), the Australian Office Taipei, and Israel Economic and Culture Office in Taipei co-host this virtual conference with Taiwan National Human Rights Commission as the supporting organization to focus on the implementation of the rights of persons with disabilities.

This conference marks the first GCTF conference focusing on the rights of persons with disabilities. Over 135 distinguished guests, speakers, hosts, and attendees from almost 20 different countries joined at this conference to share and exchange the practices to ensure equal access to opportunities on education and employment for persons with disabilities. Furthermore, the conference also invited Ms. Mi-Yeon Kim, the vice-chair of the United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities from Korea, and Ms. Odelia Fitoussi, the member of the United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities from Israel as the keynote speakers to share the point of views from the United Nations.

In the Opening Ceremony, we are honored to have Mr. Harry Ho-jen Tseng, deputy minister of Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Taiwan (MOFA), Ms. Sandra Oudkirk, the director of American Institutes in Taiwan(AIT), Mr. Izumi Hiroyasu, the chief representative of Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association (JTEA), Ms. Jenny Bloomfield, the representative of Australian Office in Taipei, Mr. Omer Caspi, the representative of Israel Economic and Culture Office in Taipei, and Dr. Joan C. Lo, the president of Eden Social Welfare Foundation to address remarks. It offered an opportunity for a mutual exchange between government officials, CSOs, and scholars.

The fundamental rights of persons with disabilities were promoted, guaranteed, and ensured after the formal adoption of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) in 2006. CRPD indicates that the rights and interests of persons with disabilities are no longer the responsibilities of public welfare organizations only and ensures that persons with disabilities have equal rights and basic freedom all.

Eden has been devoted to implementing CRPD into practice for a long period of time. This Conference had generated dialogues between all parties on the rights of persons with disabilities. Through the cooperation between the government and civil society, the rights of persons with disabilities particularly in education and employment would achieve more profound recognition.
