The concern for food security has been going on for decades and even food security is one of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which we aim to achieve by 2030. People who are food insecure, have either limited or uncertain availability of food; or limited access to food that they need. According to Unite Nation’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)’s 10-Years Research in 2017, around 355.7 million people is suffering from severe food insecurity.
Due to the lack of welfare services for senior people in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, seniors who has limited mobility or access to food, does not have enough nutrients to sustain their life. Eden started food delivery service in Ho Chi Minh City in 2013. We prepare appropriate, hygienic, and high quality meals for the seniors who are food insecure through local churches from Monday to Friday.
Through the window, the aroma of the food is spreading. Even with the masks on, the seniors couldn’t hide their excitements towards the cuisine. In April 2020, we have provided the meal services over 20 times to fill their belly with warm and comforting cuisine. Eden’s food delivery project not only hopes to support the senior’s basic needs but also hopes tofoster the long term connection between the local community and churches, so that people and family in need can be supported sustainably.
There is an old saying “one cannot live well, love well, sleep well, if one did not dine well.” Food is human’s basic yet crucial need. The world produces enough food to feed all 7.5 billion people, yet 1 in 9 people around the world go hungry each day. At Eden, we see people’s need and vowed to provide as much help as possible.
Love exceeds borders. We started our service in Vietnam since 2005. Over 15 years, Eden’s service in Vietnam expanded from providing literacy courses; immigration related services; vocational trainings; to care services and much more. Taiwan is not only the 4th biggest investor but also houses over 350,000 Vietnamese in Taiwan. The connection between Taiwan and Vietnam are stronger than ever before.
It is estimated by The United Nations that the world wastes approximately 3 trillion pounds of food each year and this amount is more than enough to feed the undernourished twice. To us at Eden, we will continue to help those who are in need; but to us as a human being, we need to cherish and be thankful for all the food that are provided to us.
