International Day for Persons with Disabilities (IDPWD)

December 3 is the “International Day for Persons with Disabilities (IDPWD).” The purpose of this day is to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities in all societies and to increase awareness of the rights of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic, and cultural life. Eden would like to celebrate this day with everyone in the society, especially with all persons with disabilities! Eden has been advocating for persons with all types of disabilities for over 38 years and provides financial, educational, caring supports, living aid and emergency relief to persons with disabilities.

The theme for this year is, “Not all disabilities are visible.” Indeed, some disabilities are not easily noticeable: such as mental illness, chronic illness, sight or hearing impairments, neurological disorders, learning differences, and cognitive dysfunctions. We need to be more aware of those who are with invincible disabilities and help to remove barriers and make the society more inclusive. The COVID-19 pandemic is deepening the inequality. Persons with disabilities are among the hardest hit by this crisis. The isolation, disconnection, and diminished service that come with this pandemic have impacted the persons with disabilities, especially those with invincible disabilities such as mental illness.

As a result, Eden would like to use this day to shine a light on this situation. “Not all disabilities are visible.”
