Eden Hosted International Workshop to advocate for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities

“The 2020 International Workshop on Human Rights-Based Approaches – The Implementation of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities" hosted by Eden Social Welfare Foundation yesterday (26 November) in Taipei had more than 150 participants with different types of disabilities and stakeholders from government, academia, NGOs attended the workshop to advocate for the rights of persons with disabilities (PWDs). The workshop had profound discussions and excellent speeches given by experts and scholars (online/in-person keynote speeches):Dr. Bonny Ling (Senior Research Fellow and Associate Lecturer for the Cambridge Centre for Applied Research in Human Trafficking, United Kingdom); Professor Nagase Osamu (Eminent Research Professor of the Institute of Ars Vivendi, Ritsumeikan University, Japan); and Professor Hyung Shik Kim, (Former Committee Member of UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities); Dr. Lisa Wang, (Adjunct Professor for the Department of Medical Sociology and Social Work at Kaohsiung Medical University, Taiwan), with the moderation by Professor Heng-Hao Chang and Dr. Ping-Der Huang, to emphasize the importance of the implementation of CRPD in Taiwan from the model of welfare for the persons with disabilities to the model of human rights.  

 

Eden was particularly grateful for the strong support from the government in Taiwan : Mr. Jun-Chang Wang, Member of the National Human Rights Commission, The Control Yuan; Mr. Wan-I Lin, Minister without Portfolio, The Executive Yuan; Mr. Riccardo Lin, Deputy Director-General of Department of NGO International Affairs, The Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and Mr. Chi-Wu Tien, Chief Secretary of Social and Family Administration, The Ministry of Health and Welfare to participate in the international workshop by given encouraging remarks to promote the rights of persons with disabilities. Eden was also very grateful to have the great support from Mr. Jay Hung, Chairperson, and members from Taiwan AID participated in the workshop with us.

 

The workshop was successfully made the dialogue between human rights and the rights practice for the persons with disabilities. Eden hopes that the rights of the persons with disabilities will be continually made aware to all and well implemented.
