The “2020 International Workshop on Human Rights-Based Approaches – The Implementation of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities

"Different but Equal!" Different types of disabilities face different types of challenges in life. Yet, one thing remains the same is that we are all born to share the same rights as everyone else. In the process of promoting support for persons with disabilities for 38 years, Eden strongly believes that all persons with disabilities should enjoy a free and prosperous life like everyone else. Eden values the value and dignity of persons with disabilities, and has actively advocated human rights-based social welfare policies and promoted comprehensive care so that the human rights and the welfare for persons with disabilities can be ensured.

To promote the joint implementation on human rights of persons with disabilities, Eden organizes the “2020 Workshop on Human Rights-Based Approaches – The Implementation of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities." We invited Dr. Bonny Ling, an Senior Research Fellow for the Cambridge Center for Applied Research in Human Trafficking in the United Kingdom, to examine the practice of the United Nation’s Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) from the perspective of the human rights-based approach.

In addition, we also invited Professor Nagase Osamu, the Chair of Membership Committee at Inclusion International, and the Vice-Chair of the CRPD Committee of the Japan Disability Forum; and Professor Hyung Shik Kim, the member of the UN Disability Rights Committee, to give online keynote speeches. Domestically, we invited Dr. Lisa Wang, an Adjunct Professor for the Department of Medical Sociology and Social Work at Kaohsiung Medical University. She is the beacon of promoting the rights of persons with disabilities in Taiwan.

We hope that through this dialogue between practitioners from the groups of persons with disabilities, academia, and government entities, the rights and the welfare of the persons with disabilities will be fully aware and well implemented.
