Cross the silent world, becoming a prince of Sheng musical instrument

His ears can't hear anything, but end up major in music; He was only freshman, but already had performed in the theater with the masters. At the age of 19, he and his seniors performed Sheng in all large and small locations. His ears were deaf, but he was able to play instrument in perfection; Not only music, he also shares his artistry skill to those around him in need. Qiu Yan-Xuan, who is experienced in performance, is childlike after he left the stage. His golden signboard is his funny and innocent.

The hearing aids in both his ears is the media he communicate with the world.  “I couldn't hear the sound before, and could only watch other’s lips moving. Entering into the world of sound, Sheng music came into his life accidently. Speaking of the experience, his mother Cheng Ho Chin mentioned that Yan-Xuan used to like trains when he was a little, and he admired for a long time every time train made whistle sound crossing him. His mother found out that the Sheng solo “train entering to town” also describe the process of train moving, which match Yan-Xuan’s interest. Therefore, Qiu Yan-Xuan start playing Sheng.

Growing up in a musical family, his father Qiu Bing-Yi is a conductor, his mother is a dulcimer performer, and Qiu Yan-Xuan has been influenced deeply by them since childhood. Playing music has become his interest. When they were in the mood, the younger brother played suona, he played the Sheng, and mother played the dulcimer, which turns their living room into a small concert.

Qiu Yan-Xuan started playing music hard. He practiced at least 100 times a day, and his tongue could be as fast as 16 notes. Tongue movement is the basic skill of playing wind instrument. Beside to practice breathing and exhaling, he also had to practice tongue movement. Never did we notice that it accidently correct his pronunciation, which makes him talk like a normal person.

Qiu Yan-Xuan is talent in music, but switching to books made a great limitations in reading comprehension. "He is blank when he was 0-4 years old." Speaking about the reason for him to lose hearing, Yan-Xuan lost it when elders bought him cold medicine in pharmacy when he was a toddler.

In the first grade of elementary school, his mother was afraid that he would get bias, so she share in public on parents meeting day that he was a hearing-impaired. And his hearing aid on his both ears are as nature as everyone wearing glasses. Parents and schoolmates take them easily and did not put a label on him. “if parents are open-minded, children tend to be mentally healthy.”

Mother learned her life lessons because her son was hearing-impaired. Therefore, she has many students in tourette syndrome and autism. "I don't give up on children like this." When you love them and teach them with your heart, they all can feel it. The parents were overjoyed and mentioned that their children were rejected everywhere but here. Qiu’s mother said to those parents:“I said your child is the best.”

Qiu Yan-Xuan enjoyed the moments performing on the stage. His mother also gave him the space to play. He was not limited to classical music. Sometimes he would go to a Chinese-Western fusion music and ask, "Can I play jazz?" He let learning music not less boring, and can spark differently.

The 19-year-old talented Qiu Yan-Xuan is embracing the stage of Sheng music and inheriting his skills to more people in need.
